There are so many things I believe my Children will learn by being Homs Schooled that I believe they would not learn in a Public School. Here is a rough list.
* Respect. While Public Schools attempt to focus on this, it is often a rushed topic. Children are corraled more in a Public School setting, and less time is available to expalin in detail what respect entails.
* Moral Obligation. Again, something that Public Schools try to teach. Again the same reason why Children may not learn it adequately.
* Consistency. They are only there part of the day. They only get the amount of time designated to a subject to learn that topic, and then it's on to the next... whether they have learned the lesson or not. Things change hourly, and then they go home.
I truly believe that while Public School is a great opportunity, too much of the Parents' responsibility to teach their Children has been diverted to the Teachers.
"No Failure Can Compensate For Failure in the Home." Too many Parents are inactive in the teaching of their Children. And as kind and loving as many Teachers are, they cannot walk the Child home and give them that extra sense of security and commitment. And unfortunately, not enough Parents are there to do that either.
Therefore, the Children learn other lessons in the absence of Parental Guidance. Teens, and even Pre-Teens nowadays are into drugs, sex, bullying and other destructive behaviors. And it's affecting younger and younger ages.
My Children need extra doses of the morals and responsibility that they can only learn from an attentive and caring Mother and Father before they have to face these challenges head on.
If my 4th Grader is learning these negative behaviors without being properly taught how to defend herself, then I could lose her before she even reaches driving age. And chances are, she will bring them home to her Siblings.
No Thank You!
Home Schooling will take a level of interaction and teaching that I have never had to deal with before. But My Children are worth being extra prepared for a world where Teens are harming themselves and others every day.
